Tarot Card Meanings List

Each Tarot card has its own symbolism and meaning. Once you know their significance, you can understand the messages they are sending you. Browse Major Arcana and the four suits below.

Major Arcana

The Major Arcana are the archetypal heart of the deck: a journey from The Fool through spiritual lessons to The World. They speak to life themes, turning points, and deep inner work.

The Fool
0. The Fool
New beginnings, innocence, spontaneity, free spirit.

A bold new chapter is calling you. The Fool stands at the edge of a cliff, ready to leap into the unknown - and so are you. This card encourages you to trust the process, even when you cannot yet see the landing. Let go of cynicism, and allow childlike wonder to guide your next move. The risk you are afraid to take is exactly the one your soul is begging you to make.

The Magician
I. The Magician
Manifestation, willpower, focused action.

You already have everything you need to make it happen. The Magician points to your innate power to shape reality through focused intent. Stop waiting for the right moment - the moment is now, and the tools are in your hands. Be deliberate with your words, your attention and your energy, because each one is a wand you wield without realising it. Manifestation is not magic, it is repeated, intentional choice.

The High Priestess
II. The High Priestess
Intuition, mystery, the subconscious.

The answer you are searching for will not come from logic alone. The High Priestess invites you to slow down, to listen to the whisper beneath the noise, to honour the part of yourself that already knows. There are layers to this situation that have not yet revealed themselves - be patient. The most important work right now is inner. Trust your gut: it has been right more often than your overthinking has given it credit for.

The Empress
III. The Empress
Abundance, nurturing, creativity, growth.

A season of abundance is unfolding. The Empress is the cosmic mother - she brings creative breakthroughs, nurturing relationships, and a deep, sensual reconnection with your body and the natural world. Let yourself receive. Let yourself rest. The thing you have been planting is finally taking root, and your only job right now is to keep watering it gently. Beauty and pleasure are not luxuries - they are part of how you heal.

The Emperor
IV. The Emperor
Structure, authority, leadership.

It is time to bring order to the chaos. The Emperor speaks of building solid foundations, setting clear boundaries and stepping into your authority. Whether at work, at home, or within yourself - the lack of structure is what is keeping you stuck. Lead from a place of calm strength, not reactivity. The discipline you resist is the very thing that will set you free.

The Hierophant
V. The Hierophant
Tradition, mentorship, spiritual learning.

Improvement and growth are guaranteed. The Hierophant is connected with advancement, truth, and wise counsel. A teacher, mentor or trusted elder may appear in your life - and their words will help you become a truer version of yourself. Listen closely. This is also a card of tradition and ritual: lean into the practices that have stood the test of time, even if they feel old-fashioned. Some things have lasted because they work.

The Lovers
VI. The Lovers
Love, choices, alignment of values.

A pivotal choice is in front of you, and the Lovers reminds you to choose with both heart and integrity. This is more than romance - it is about union, alignment, and saying yes to what is true for your soul (and no to what is not). If you are in a relationship, deeper honesty is being asked of you. If you are not, a connection is on the horizon that will mirror back parts of you long forgotten. Choose love. But choose yourself first.

The Chariot
VII. The Chariot
Control, willpower, victory.

Victory is within reach - but only if you stay focused. The Chariot rolls in when you have been pulling in too many directions; it is time to pick a lane and commit. Hold the reins of your inner opposing forces and drive forward with discipline. The obstacles you have been facing are about to fall away, but only because you stopped flinching. Keep going. The win is closer than it feels.

Strength
VIII. Strength
Inner strength, courage, compassion.

Real strength is gentle. The Strength card shows a woman taming a lion not by force but by love - and that is the medicine you need. Whatever fear, anger or wild emotion is roaring inside you, do not fight it; befriend it. You are stronger than this storm, and softer than you give yourself credit for. Patience and self-compassion will carry you further than any willpower ever could.

The Hermit
IX. The Hermit
Solitude, introspection, inner guidance.

Pull back. The Hermit is asking you to step out of the noise, the meetings, the scrolling, and into the quiet of your own company. There is wisdom waiting for you that can only be heard when you stop talking. This is not loneliness - it is sacred solitude. A retreat, a long walk, or a single honest evening alone with your thoughts will shift more than another month of action. Light your inner lantern and walk.

Wheel of Fortune
X. Wheel of Fortune
Cycles, destiny, a turning point.

The wheel is turning in your favour. After a season of effort and waiting, an unexpected shift in fortune is on its way - opportunities, news, or a sudden change of circumstance. What once felt stuck will soon move. Remember: cycles are part of life. Stay open to luck, but also stay grounded - you are co-creating with destiny, not at its mercy.

Justice
XI. Justice
Truth, fairness, accountability.

The truth always comes out. Justice arrives when balance is needed - in a relationship, a contract, a long-running situation where someone has been carrying more weight than is fair. Honesty (especially with yourself) is the only path forward. If you have been wronged, the scales will tip back. If you have been the one out of integrity, this is your invitation to make it right.

The Hanged Man
XII. The Hanged Man
Surrender, pause, new perspective.

You are not happy with where things stand - and you feel trapped in a mind-frame that is making you miserable. The Hanged Man tells you that you have the strength to release yourself. All you need to do is walk away from the situation, or simply change your understanding of it. Maybe it is not as bad as you think? Look at things from a new angle. Stop trying to control everything. Give yourself time to understand what is going on, and the right course of action will reveal itself soon.

Death
XIII. Death
Endings, transformation, rebirth.

The Death card says that you are afraid to change and start anew - yet a complete reversal of the existing circumstances is exactly what is unfolding. Such big transformation can feel scary; you may be confused and anxious. But understand that these changes are for the better. The card says you will recover quickly. It can also point to a disruption in a relationship or even a breakup, or a drastic career change. Death foretells that your old self will die - and you will be reborn as a truer version of yourself.

Temperance
XIV. Temperance
Balance, moderation, alchemy.

Mix the opposites. Temperance is the alchemist - blending fire and water, ambition and rest, structure and flow. The answer to your situation is not "either/or" but a careful blend of both. Pace yourself. Healing is happening, but slowly, beneath the surface. Cultivate patience, and trust that the right ingredients are already coming together - your job is just not to rush the recipe.

The Devil
XV. The Devil
Bondage, attachment, shadow self.

Toxic people, unhealthy relationships, co-dependence, deceptive colleagues. This card speaks of a lot of negative energies. You may feel entrapped, powerless, weak, and confused. Some people may be trying to sabotage you or use you. The most important thing now is to understand that you are in control of your own life. If you are unhappy with the situation you are in, you can free yourself of it. Build up your self-esteem. If you think you are depressed, seek the help of a professional.

The Tower
XVI. The Tower
Sudden upheaval, revelation, awakening.

As you have got the Tower for this spread, you should be ready to replace the old foundations of the past with something more authentic, something that works better. Regarding your career, this card foretells an inevitable conflict. Be patient and keep your temper in check. Avoid saying things that may hurt others or be misunderstood. If you are in a romantic relationship, now is the right time to work on it. Be supportive of your partner, be honest, decide what you want to change in this relationship.

The Star
XVII. The Star
Hope, faith, renewal.

One word: success! This is a very positive card. It says that you will solve your current problems with ease. The Star symbolises enthusiasm, new ventures, and energy. According to this card, you will get help when you need it, and this will allow you to achieve your aspirations. Due to your strong will, you will be able to bring your strategy to fruition. The Star shines bright, and you should not be afraid of anything.

The Moon
XVIII. The Moon
Illusion, intuition, the unconscious.

Things are not as they seem. The Moon casts a silver light on illusions, half-truths and the part of you that is afraid to look. Old fears or anxieties may be surfacing - not to destroy you, but to be seen and released. Trust your dreams in the next two weeks; they are speaking. Avoid making major decisions until the fog clears. What is hidden will reveal itself in its own time.

The Sun
XIX. The Sun
Joy, vitality, success.

The period of darkness is over. Seeing this card means that the sun is shining bright again for you. Things are going well; you radiate confidence, optimism, luck, and vitality. Others are drawn to the positive vibes you are giving out. You bring love and light into everything you come into contact with. If you have been lied to, the Sun is here to shine its light on the deceit and reveal the truth. Soon you will find out who your real friends are. Any problems you have been facing will melt away.

Judgement
XX. Judgement
Awakening, calling, rebirth.

Judgement speaks of awakening and rebirth. In the spiritual context, it means that soon you will reevaluate your spiritual path and maybe your understanding of spirituality. The karmic lessons of your past help you a lot with this: now you understand what exactly the universe wants you to do. You are ready to make your spiritual path more enlightened, more meaningful. At this very moment, you may be going through a spiritual renewal that can change your entire life.

The World
XXI. The World
Completion, integration, accomplishment.

You have arrived. The World celebrates the closing of an important chapter - a long project, a multi-year journey, a relationship that has run its full arc. Take a moment to truly let it land before rushing to the next thing. You did the work; the wholeness you feel is earned. Travel, expansion, or recognition on a wider stage may also be on the horizon.
